As part of our annual Faculty’s Apprenticeship Training Program, we have four exciting opportunities in the Faculty of Engineering to join the government’s level 4 Advanced Apprenticeship Scheme.

This is a great chance for you to grow your career in Engineering and we will support and help you to develop the skills, experience and knowledge you will need to succeed.

You will undertake a full time 4-year Apprenticeship in Mechanical/Electrical/Electronic Engineering commencing on 1st September 2023.

You will receive practical training in the faculty’s extensively equipped workshops/laboratories and broad-based training on a range of standard/specialised engineering processes, instrumentation, test and measurement, all from our experienced and qualified engineering technicians.

Over the first 6-8 months you will undertake basic training followed by focused specialist training within designated teams and facilities across the faculty, allowing you to build your new practical skills and knowledge in specialist engineering disciplines.

There will be opportunities for you over the apprenticeship period to learn and train on a wide range of cutting-edge engineering technologies and disciplines including:

  • CNC machining including CAD/CAM
  • Rig design, build and modification.
  • Materials testing and characterisation.
  • Other engineering processes/areas as needed.

Your formal academic training for the Higher Level 4 Apprenticeship Standard programme will be over a 4-year period and will be achieved via a day release program at a HE College specific to your needs where you will be expected to progress to HNC level in mechanical/electrical engineering disciplines.

Qualifications to be undertaken will include:

  • Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations
  • Internal training courses relevant to role
  • Higher National Certificate (HNC) Level 4 Mechanical/Electrical Engineering

You should have, or be expected to achieve a minimum of ONE of the following sections:

  • Five GCSEs in English, Maths, and Science – grades 4 & above (old equivalent grades C & above)
  • A/AS levels in relevant subjects to include mathematics and a science.
  • Have previous work experience or employment in engineering at Level 3

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are eager to learn new skills/techniques working within a team of highly skilled and supportive technicians. You will have the ability to show attention to detail and rise to the challenge this fantastic opportunity presents. We are keen to receive applications from those currently underrepresented in Engineering in the UK, such as women and those from minority ethnic backgrounds.

You are invited to apply for this opportunity through the University of Nottingham website until 12th June 2023.
