Role Overview & Responsibilities

Applications are invited from a suitably qualified and experienced Anatomical Pathology Technician to join the Mortuary team within the Cellular Pathology Department.

Applicants must have the Royal Institute of Public Health level 4 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology or equivalent or be willing to work towards gaining the qualification.

You will be responsible for the day to day running of the mortuary at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy and the Body Store/Viewing Room at Queen Margaret Hospital, Dunfermline. They will be responsible for:

  • The provision of the technical work in the mortuary including post mortems, receipt and release of deceased, viewings, liaising with funeral directors, bereaved relatives, police, Procurator Fiscal, nursing staff, patient relations, chaplains, porters, medical staff, laboratory staff and Consultant Pathologists.
  • The supervision of mortuary staff, including management of absence, PDPs and training.
  • Keeping documentation up to date and writing and reviewing SOPs ensuring compliance with national guidance, legislation and accreditation requirements.

The post will be based at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy but there is a requirement to travel to Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline on a regular basis. A new Mortuary facility was completed within the Victoria Hospital Site in April 2015 and the Department has full ISO 15189 accreditation.
