Role Overview & Responsibilities

Slavery is the fastest growing crime in the world. There are thought to be 40 million people enslaved worldwide and, based on our own research using police data, more than 100,000 victims in the UK alone.

Justice & Care is an anti-slavery organisation working internationally to address slavery and human trafficking, provide release and care for victims, dismantle criminal networks and bring perpetrators to justice. It works to protect communities at risk from traffickers and spark systemic change by working with policy makers and other key stakeholders.

Our Vision: Every captive free. Every perpetrator brought to justice.

Our Mission: By bringing together specialists, we work to prevent slavery, to release and care for victims, to uncover and dismantle criminal networks and to spark systemic change.

Our Values: As an organisation we have a set of core values that underpin and inform all we do:

  • We are collaborative
  • We are courageous
  • We are experts
  • We are relentless
  • We are pioneering

As a Victim Navigator, you will help broker and manage contact with victims of slavery and human trafficking.

Acting as a bridge between identified victims of slavery and human trafficking and police efforts to bring exploiters to justice, you will help victims across a number of investigations to navigate services and benefits. You will provide them with individualised advice, enabling them to secure the best post-identification support possible.

Additionally, you will learn and share lessons for government and national police strategies, identifying a successful model that could be promoted and replicated. Assisting in assessing the impact of your work, you will inform on the improvement of other local, regional, national and international services.

Your main responsibilities include, but are not necessarily limited to:

  • Act as a bridge between identified victims of Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking and police efforts to bring exploiters to justice.
  • Provide independent advocacy to victims post-identification, helping them navigate services, benefits and the advice they need across local or national providers
  • Help victims to navigate and secure more effective victim support post-identification – including access to statutory help, support and provision through effective advocacy
  • Provide strategic advice on victim engagement across a number of investigations
  • To actively participate in relevant practice-level multi-disciplinary team meetings;
  • Learn and share lessons for UK Government and national police/NGO strategies, as well as prove a model that could be promoted and spread
  • Enable the impact of the pilot to be assessed and to inform the improvement of other local/county/regional, national and international services

Key requirements include:

  • Have relevant experience working with vulnerable people
  • Ability to organise and make things happen
  • Passionate to do whatever you can to combat modern day slavery
  • It is critical that candidates have lived in the UK for at least five years
  • The candidate will need to be willing to travel as needed. They will need to have a vehicle, and valid driver’s license. Mileage costs to be reimbursed.
  • Some travel within relevant ‘source countries’ and in line with operational needs will be necessary
  • Full Security Clearance Vetting will be carried out by Surrey Police
