Role Overview & Responsibilities

Applications are invited to join the Ageing Epidemiology Research Unit (AGE) in the School of Public Health. This post will be based at the Charing Cross Campus (Hammersmith), Hammersmith Campus (East Acton), White City Campus.


With a rapidly ageing population, age-related neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, are fast becoming a major focus of public health interest, leading to studies and interventions worldwide. This is an exciting opportunity to coordinate activity in a small laboratory facility, based within the clinical research site, required for important longitudinal and prevention studies.

Duties and responsibilities

As a member of the Ageing Epidemiology Research unit, you will have a key role within the study delivery and laboratory management team, with responsibilities in: 1) the day-to-day organisation and running of the laboratory and relevant operational issues, 2) adhering to correct biobanking procedures ensuring biobank operations run smoothly 3) training and supervising other members of staff in laboratory procedures e.g. SOPs, sample processing protocols etc. and activities related to data capture, entry and administration.

Essential requirements

You should hold a Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, or related field, or equivalent vocational qualification and / or equivalent experience in laboratory operation and management. You need to demonstrate excellent laboratory and organisational skills and have proven experience of handling and storage of biomaterial. Knowledge of the required procedures and regulatory compliance is vital. Experience with data management in a clinical research setting would be advantageous.

Further information

This is a full time, fixed term position until 31 December 2023. You will be based across Charing Cross Campus, White City Campus and Hammersmith Campus.
