Role Overview & Responsibilities

This permanent, part-time (22.5 hrs) band 7 Clinical Psychologist position would suit someone looking to develop their skills in neuro-rehabilitation.

The post involves providing an outpatient service to patients with acquired brain injury, including cognitive assessment/rehabilitation and therapeutic input. The work is varied with regular opportunities for joint working and would suit someone who enjoys working closely with a team. The team includes two Clinical Psychologists; specialist neuropsychology supervision is available.

The post-holder will be part of a supportive multi-disciplinary team in which psychology is well-established. The post-holder will also be part of a large and friendly Clinical Health Psychology Department. The post would be ideally suited to someone looking to develop their career in the health psychology/neurological rehabilitation field. We welcome applications from newly qualified psychologists, as well as those looking to change their area of specialism.

We also have a 2-day band 7 community neurology post, a 4-day band 8a community neurology post, and a 5-day band 8a acute neurology/stroke post currently being advertised. The first of these could combine well with this post to create a fulltime position.

We can offer you a varied and interesting post with regular peer support as well as a commitment to time and funding for the PgDip in Clinical Neuropsychology (especially if combined with the other 2-day band 7 post).

The post involves:
  • Undertaking specialist neuropsychological assessments to inform rehabilitation
  • Psychological assessment and interventions to support mood and adjustment
  • Adapting clinical and therapeutic approaches to accommodate cognitive changes as a result of brain injury
  • Linking-in and working alongside other providers such as charitable agencies, care and educational staff and other health services and staff
  • Providing indirect clinical interventions including training and consultation
  • Using knowledge and skills to identify and implement audit, research and service development work as the opportunities arise
  • Being involved in the continued professional development and supervision of roles such as Assistant Psychologists and placement students

  • varied working with a supportive multi-disciplinary team
  • contact with a range of applied psychologists
