Role Overview & Responsibilities
gap personnel South Wales are exclusively looking for a Stores Operator in Cardiff.
You will be joining a company that is the UK's leading designer and manufacturer of commercial steel doors.
Hours Of Work
Monday to Thursday- 06:00 – 16:00
Pay Rate
£10.50 going up to £11.76 after 6 months of probation
Job Purpose
- To control the receipt, storage, and dispatch of raw materials, components, and finished doors, flashings and ancillaries, ensuring that the product is delivered on time in full; the product quality exceeds customers’ expectations; and costs are controlled within budget.
- To conduct all activities safely, and with minimal impact on the environment.
- To comply with the company’s policies and procedures, particularly in respect of quality, health & safety, housekeeping, environment, and human resources.
- To take part in programmes for continuous improvement, and the systematic elimination of waste.

Responsibilities
- Report any potential issues which might impact on our ability to achieve the production or dispatch targets for the day promptly to the VSC or Procurement Officer.
- Learn new skills as required so that the team can be flexible, and to ensure long term succession planning.
- Ensure you understand the risk assessments and safe working practices for your area. Report accidents and near misses to the VSC or Procurement Officer promptly.
- Ensure that your workplace is maintained in a safe and tidy condition throughout the working day, and particularly at the end of each shift.
- Report any problems with the facilities that may have an impact on the team’s ability to meet output targets.
- Suggest improvements to the equipment or plant layout that would improve the effectiveness or productivity of the processes.
- Carry out forklift checks daily.
Goods inwards
- Safe unpacking and unloading of materials and consumables, ensuring materials are clearly identified, and stored safely and securely in the appropriate place.
- Confirm that goods received are in good condition, match the supplier’s documentation, and what was expected. Notify the Procurement Officer of any discrepancies promptly.
- Receipt materials, aside Department Head purchases of non-stock. Record the quantity received accurately and promptly in the Epicor ERP system. Advise when the non-stock items are delivered.
Stock Management
- Carry out cycle counts regularly including stock checks on steel and high-volume items on a perpetual basis.
- Participate in all stock counts as requested.
- Report discrepancies between the quantity found in stock and the quantity shown on the Epicor system to the Purchasing team promptly.
- Record issues of any materials not included on the job pick list into the Epicor system.
- Report damaged goods to the Procurement Officer to ensure DMR is raised.
- Count consumables weekly and report shortages to the Procurement Officer.
Kitting
- Print off job pick lists daily.
- Pick materials and place them in the kitting boxes, ensuring the materials are labeled accurately. Deliver kits to the assembly line.
- Report shortages or discrepancies promptly to the Procurement Officer.
Finished Goods
- Ensure finished goods are packed securely and stored efficiently, so that the product is clearly identifiable and protected from damage.
- Ensure that the yard is maintained in a clean and safe condition, with materials clearly labeled and efficiently stored.
Transport and Dispatch
- Print the sales order pick lists daily.
- Load wagons safely, to ensure the goods are not damaged in transit
Other Duties
- Ensure waste is correctly segregated in accordance with the company’s environmental policy.
- Liaise with our approved waste contractors for the emptying of skips.
- Ensure that the roads approaching the site are cleaned following a skip exchange and any loose debris is swept up.
- Stores Team - Raise Bom error NCRs when identified in stores/purchasing
Key Skills
- Fully computer literate.

- Full FLT License is essential – either RTITB or ITSAAR
