Role Overview & Responsibilities

Farnham Integrated Care Service (FICS) is at the heart of Farnham Primary Care Network (PCN), offering patients from our GP Practices access to our Urgent Same Day Service.

We have a team of clinicians who represent the Practices as well as PCN clinicians and musculoskeletal practitioners. Our team is completed by our HCA’s who work closely with the clinicians and our Admin team.

Job summary

We are looking for a confident and effective Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to undertake patient care and clinical team support duties on a part-time basis at Farnham Integrated Care Services.

Shift Patterns include:

  • Monday to Friday 08:00am - 2:00pm
  • Monday to Friday 2:00pm - 8:00pm
  • Saturday mornings 1-2 per month.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of this role will be (after training):

  • Phlebotomy
  • ECG
  • FeNo/Spirometry
  • Completing NHS health checks for eligible patients
  • Wound care - dressings and stitch removal
  • Injections and vaccinations
  • Ear irrigation
  • BP monitoring
  • Stock ordering, supplies maintenance

Job description

Primary Responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of our Healthcare Assistant. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

Patient health checks

With internal training: ECG recording, phlebotomy, urine analysis, blood pressure
measurement

With external training: removal of sutures, FeNo/Spirometry, peak flow, INR, Flu immunisation, wound care, ear irrigation

Chaperoning duties

Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurses; requesting basic pathology tests

Sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of clinical equipment

Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording

Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment including equipment checks before, during and after patient care interventions

Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients’ health and well-being through Health Checks

Using all clinical systems to update patient records on EMIS.

Ordering medical supplies and checking and replenishing these in the various clinical
rooms.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Competent HCA willing to learn new skills

Desirable

  • Healthcare qualification (level 3 or 4) or working towards gaining equivalent level

General Practice Care Certificate

  • Phlebotomy Certificate

Experience

Desirable

  • Experience of working in primary care
